Deshe Bideshe: this name originated from a popular book by Syed Mujtaba Ali. 'Deshe Bideshe' was founded on the 21st of February, 1991. It
was initially typed using a Bangla typewriter. A few issues later we
began using a Bangla font invented for computers by Dr. Zafar Iqbal,
evolving our publication process. The newspaper sold for a price of
$1.00. On June 6, 1996, Deshe Bideshe became a weekly newspaper. In
1997, Deshe Bideshe began simultaneously publishing from Toronto and
New York. At this time, the newspaper expanded to 64 pages, including 4
to 8 pages printed in colour. In 1999 the Deshe Bideshe launched its
online publication. In 2000, 'Just for Kids,' later renamed `New
Generation’ was produced as a four-page insert in English. In 2006 hit mainstream news stands including Metro, Shoppers Drug Mart, various shopping centres and subway news stands. On December 1, 2008, Deshe Bideshe transformed into a daily online publication. Deshe Bideshe is the bridge between Bangladeshi expatriates and their roots.
